Brodie Jouney project

2016 Mar 31st

Converting this bike with a rear hub motor presented a challenge in that it originally had an internally geared rear hub with a coaster brake. I upgraded to high performance hydraulic brakes on the front, with a bigger rotor, but on the rear there are no mounts for a brake caliper. I ended up finding the A2Z model DM-UNI on-line at Toronto Cycles, and after a little modification for the larger hub motor axle, it works great. It seems like a high quality unit. It fits on the inside of the rear dropout, with another plate on the outside that sandwiches the dropout.  The brake caliper attaches to this adapter, and you are in business.

This bike was a trade in, I outfitted it with an Ezee kit from Grin, a Cycle Analyst, and a 10S6P Samsung 1865025R (36V 15AH) battery in a Crystalyte style removable hard case. Range with this battery will be 60-80+ km.  The great thing about this case is it can be mounted to most tubes with the supplied stainless hose clamps, no bottle nuts needed, although they can be used.

This is the last battery of this type that I had in stock, if anyone wants one, I can add it to the next battery order with your choice of cells. (Canada only).  I also added a 52 tooth single front chain ring to allow comfortable pedaling in the 30-35 km/h range that this bike can cruise at. (I have more of these nice chain ring/two piece crank combos if you are interested, at 49.00 CAD)

This bike sold right away, not too surprising, it turned out very sharp.

Update:  I received a nice email from the lady who purchased the bike:

Hi David

I LOVE my new bike and it seems to be helping my hips already - possibly flaring up my back issues but I can work with it:) It changes how I feel about using my bike as now I want to get on it and ride.
Thanks so much
warmly
